Our Programs - Bending the Weight Loss Math Back in Your Favor
Ever been told that a calorie is the same for everybody and that the basic math of weight loss works the same for everyone?
Well, it’s simply not true. This mechanical and overly simplistic view of weight loss doesn’t take into account differences in metabolism, hormonal response, energy efficiency, digestive efficiencies, and a whole host of other issues. The truth is we’re all playing by slightly different rules and it truly and scientifically can be much harder for some people to lose weight than others.
And if you’re playing by those harder sets of rules you need to realize 3 things:
1. A diet tailored to your unique metabolic challenges is essential
Basically, if you’ve struggled to lose weight or to keep it off, it’s likely that your metabolism is “hardwired” to store energy - a process that’s only heightened by starving it for energy sources. And that’s exactly what low-fat, highcarb diets do. They keep your body burning carbohydrates - starches, sugars, grains, vegetables, etc. - but they don’t give you nearly enough of them.
Metabolically, your body reacts by going into “famine mode,” dialing down your metabolism and storing away
anything extra that it can, which drains you of energy and makes it even harder to lose weight.
ketogenic diets switch your body’s primary energy source from carbohydrates to fats. So your body burns off the
extra weight while maintaining plenty of energy. As an added benefit, you won’t be hungry on this diet because
your body will be getting plenty of food as it burns off your weight.
Keep in mind that this is a medically supervised and strictly controlled ketogenic diet that has proven successful for our clients for the last 20 years. Don’t confuse this with unregulated, trendy high-protein diets.
2. Going “off diet” sets everyone back, but it’s worse for “hard-to-lose” metabolisms
Simply put, your metabolism reacts harder to perceived starvation, so when you drop your calorie count and then go off your diet, all those extra calories get immediately “saved” as fat stores. That means blowing your diet sets you back more than others. It’s not fair, but it’s true, and we’re sure you’ve suspected it to be true yourself.
So how do you get around this?
a) You take food out of the equation, so there’s no calorie, carb, or fat gram counting
b) You make the diet easy to fit into a busy (or hectic) lifestyle.
Pacific Medical Weight Loss does both of these by using the most studied and scientifically formulated beverage-based diet available, one that’s been producing medically proven results for over 25 years. By taking food out of the equation, you don’t have to worry about going off diet. And by making the supplement easy to grab & go and having plenty of diet-approved snacks available, you don’t have to worry about ever getting too-hungry.
3. Your body requires a bigger calorie-out to calorie-in inbalance
Historically, nutritionists have told you that as long as you burn more calories than you consume, you’ll lose weight. We’ve already showed you why that’s not always the case when we wrote about ketogenic vs. normal diets. But even for a ketogenic diet, you may still be fighting the math. Here’s why and here’s how New Directions can help you bend that math back in your favor.
Simply put, some people’s metabolisms are more efficient than others, meaning that their metabolisms can get by on a lot fewer calories, and that they are great at “saving” un-needed energy. If you find it really hard to lose weight, your metabolism probably falls into that category of “super saver.”
Practically speaking, that means that if you and another person both burn 1000 calories more per day than you are eating, all else being equal, you’ll lose less weight than they will. If you’ve been blaming yourself for that, you can stop now, because it's not just in your head, and it’s not your fault. But it’s still a hurdle your diet needs to help you get over.
Enter the very low calorie diet.
A diet that has fewer than XXXX calories per day. Now, most people can’t get away with that few calories because:
a) their body would go into starvation mode and/or
b) they’d be constantly hungry and/or
c) they wouldn’t have access to such nutritionally dense calories and/or
d) they wouldn’t get enough protien and would lose too much muscle
but with New Directions, you can get away with that because our diet is:
- Ketogenic so you burn fat, keeping your metabolism revved high
- High protein so you preserve your muscle mass
- Nutrient dense and medically supervised, so you’ll actually get a lot healthier on the diet
- and Ketogenic so you’ll feel full and well fed
What this means is that you can double or triple the “burn rate” of average diets. If most diets leave
you burning 600 more calories than you take in, than Pacific Medical Weight Loss’s very low calorie diet will allow you to
burn 1800 calories more than you take in.
And that more than makes up for your metabolic efficiency, moving the advantage back into your
corner.
Give yourself credit for beating the odds, then stack them back in your favor
The truth is that most of our clients have actually managed to lose weight on other diets. A lot of weight, actually. They just weren’t able to keep sprinting up hill the whole time. And then diet-industry and decade-out-of-date nutritionists blamed them for not making it work. Worse, they blamed themselves.
Well if you’ve had that happen to you, it’s time to stop blaming yourself. And start believing in what you could have achieved - and will achieve - once the odds are put back in your favor. Once you’re on a downhill run, with the rules of the game working for you.
